C E Evans & Son has traded as a butcher on West Street in Alresford since the early twentieth century, founded by the Evans brothers and still known locally simply as Evans. The shop sells beef, lamb, poultry and game alongside a fish counter and a small deli of cold meats, cheeses, pastries and ready meals, most of it sourced from producers within the county. Its faggots have placed in Hampshire's pie and sausage competitions, and the shop has picked up a gold medal at the South of England Show. The counter runs on the rhythms of a working high-street butcher rather than a food hall, with game appearing in season and orders taken by phone as often as in person. It remains one of the few shops on the street that has not changed trade in living memory.
