Felinfoel Brewery has produced beer on its Farmers Row site in Felinfoel, on the edge of Llanelli, since 1878, when local innkeeper and tinplate works owner David John built the brewery next to the pub he had already run for four decades. In December 1935 Felinfoel became the first brewery in the United Kingdom, and one of the first in Europe, to sell beer in cans, waxing the inside of each one to stop the beer reacting with the metal, a method that let it avoid the pasteurisation American rivals had needed. Cans of Felinfoel beer were later shipped to British troops during the Second World War. The brewery is still run by descendants of David John from this single Felinfoel site, producing cask and bottled ales including Double Dragon.
