J & T Vermeulen & Sons has traded as a bakery and delicatessen on Cross Street in Ellesmere since 1968. The shop bakes its own bread, cakes and pastries on the premises and stocks a deli counter of cooked meats, pâté and cheeses, alongside pies and other savoury lines made in house. Beyond the shop, the business runs a stall at Wem market each Thursday morning and at Whitchurch market on Fridays, a pattern of trading that has continued for decades. Custom hampers and buffet catering are available to order. The shop opens six days a week, closing only on Sundays, with a longer Saturday morning start to catch early market trade. It remains a family-run concern trading under the same name it opened with.
