On the Shute estate near Axminster since the early 1990s, Lyme Bay grew from a cider company into what it now calls the UK's largest maker of mead and country fruit wines — with an increasingly serious still and sparkling English wine list on top. The 2025 International Wine Challenge made that point emphatically: trophies for best English white and best still English wine went to the Martin's Lane Chardonnay 2020, another for best English red to the Pinot Noir 2021, and the IWSC added a 95-point gold for the Christmas mead. The cellar door — shop, production tours and guided tastings — opens Monday to Saturday, with a pause for lunch.
