Onno opened on Penicuik High Street at the end of May 2026, converting a former butcher's shop into a café run by Marco and Baran Akgul, both of whom worked previously in hotel and restaurant food and beverage roles. The menu is built around Mediterranean-inspired brunch and lunch dishes, fresh pastries and seasonal desserts, served in a space regional press described as modern and dog-friendly. Coffee is Guatemalan beans roasted at U-Roast in Glasgow rather than a standard wholesale blend, a detail the owners use to distinguish the offer from other cafés in the town. As a business only weeks old, it has not yet built a long trading history, but its opening was covered by regional press as part of a wider refresh of independent shops on the High Street. The conversion retains elements of the building's former shopfront while reworking the interior for café seating, and it sits alongside Penicuik's small independent food and drink scene rather than competing directly with the town's bakeries and takeaways.
