Pleuchie's Howff

Pleuchie's Howff occupies 97 Annan Road on the edge of Dumfries, a ten-minute walk from the railway station. The name combines Scots words for a ploughman and a favourite meeting place, a nod to Robert Burns, who worked the land nearby and is buried in the town. Incorporated in 2018 and still under the same family ownership, the bar is built around an island counter with a wood-burning stove on one side and a sports-television area on the other, plus a beer garden. The range runs to beers and lagers from around the world and an extensive malt whisky selection, with pizza served every night of the week and live music most Saturdays. In 2024 it was named Best Independent Bar in the South of Scotland at the Molson Coors Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards, and it reached the final in two further categories in 2025. It operates as an independent, single-site free house rather than part of a pub group.
