Ragtag ArtsCeramic Studio

Ragtag Arts runs a community ceramic studio from a unit on the Mealbank Mill industrial estate outside Kendal, a second site to its Elephant Yard base in town. The studio holds two kilns and two wheels for up to four people at a time, and beginners are asked to complete five consecutive weeks of Clay Club before working independently. Sessions mix coiling and slab building with wheel throwing, and the atmosphere is deliberately unhurried, aimed as much at conversation as at finished pots. Ragtag also runs a scrapstore and a small café at its town-centre site, and profits from studio fees support the wider community-arts programme.
