Snowcat Cinema

Snowcat Cinema is an independent film programme with a permanent home at Penarth Pier Pavilion on the Esplanade. It began in 2017 when founder Ben started screening films in Cardiff pubs and coffee shops, opening with a Halloween double bill of The Fog and The Thing; the response was strong enough to move the operation into the refurbished Pavilion and expand to a regular Thursday-to-Sunday schedule. Described by its founder as close to a one-person operation, with support from his wife and a small number of volunteers, Snowcat programmes films Ben wants to see himself: classics, foreign-language titles, cult and lesser-known work alongside the occasional new release, often timed to anniversaries. The Pavilion's refurbished screen and sound system give it cinema-standard presentation behind small-scale, independent programming. Snowcat is registered with the Independent Cinema Office and Film Hub Wales, and is understood to be the only cinema on a pier in the UK.
