Sulwath Brewers

Jim and Helen Henderson founded Sulwath in Castle Douglas in 1996, and their son Allen runs it now as managing director — a small family brewery on King Street brewing the ales the Stewartry drinks, with a tap room that CAMRA's local branch named Pub of the Year for both 2025 and 2026, a rare back-to-back. Smoke damage closed the tap room briefly in 2025; it was refurbished and reopened, because family breweries this size do not have the option of giving up. Open six days for tastings and takeaways, the brewery is the drinking heart of a town that takes its food and drink seriously enough to have earned the reputation. Thirty years of one family's beer, poured where it's brewed.
