The Early Bird Bakery opened on Kings Heath High Street in November 2018, founded by two friends named Tim, together with one of their brothers, who first met selling cakes and coffee at food festivals around Birmingham. The bakery bakes its own cakes, pastries and sourdough on site each morning and runs a daytime brunch menu, with halal ingredients and vegetarian and vegan options offered alongside the standard menu. The counter and kitchen occupy a single shopfront on the high street, with coworking desks upstairs used during the day. Ingredients are sourced from regional suppliers where possible, and the menu changes with the seasons alongside a fixed core range of loaves, traybakes and filled rolls. The shop has become a fixture of the Kings Heath food scene since opening, serving locals and visitors from the wider Moseley and Kings Heath area with coffee and counter service from early morning through to mid-afternoon, seven days a week.
