The Gallery Whitehead is a small commercial art gallery at 19 Cable Road in the Victorian seaside village of Whitehead. It is run by the artist Cynthia Waddell, owner and director of The Gallery Whitehead Limited, who has used it for more than a decade to show her own work and to promote other local artists. The gallery occupies a late-nineteenth-century end-of-terrace house that keeps much of its original detail, including fireplaces, tall windows and wooden floors. It is arranged as two spaces: the main gallery, given over to Waddell's contemporary and abstract painting, and the Conservatory Gallery, which hosts changing monthly exhibitions by other artists. Entry is free, and work is for sale. Cable Road takes its name from the telegraph cable to Scotland once laid beneath it, when the street was still called Queens Road.
