The Ingate stands on Grove Road a short walk from Beccles station, in a building put up in 1902 for the Colchester Brewing Company as the Ingate Hotel; a Lacons brewery plaque from a later era is still fixed to the outside wall. It trades as a free house with two rooms: a lounge with bar stools and low tables for conversation, and a sports bar with a dartboard and pool table used by the pub's own league teams. Three cask ales rotate on the bar, mostly from Suffolk and Norfolk breweries such as Green Jack and Lacons, with occasional guests from further afield. The old car park behind the building is now a part-covered outdoor seating area. Locals treat it as a community local rather than a food-led pub, with sport on the screens ahead of any kitchen menu.
