The Lade Inn at Kilmahog, a mile outside Callander, opened in May 1935 as the Wayside Tearooms, a business built and run by sisters Alie and Sheana Maclaurin before the military requisitioned the building in 1939. The Park family bought the property in 2005, renamed it The Lade Inn, and converted an old microbrewery on site into the Scottish Real Ale Shop, which opened in December 2006 selling bottled ales from across the country. The pub itself pours three house beers brewed to its own recipes: Waylade, a blonde bitter; Ladeback, an amber ale; and Ladeout, a dark ale flavoured with chocolate and liquorice. Food is served in the bar, the restaurant and an outdoor beer garden, and dogs are welcome throughout. The Lade Inn remains under Park family ownership, run as a single freehouse outside any pub company estate.
