The Queen's Head occupies a mostly eighteenth-century, Grade II listed building on Moor Street in Chepstow, resurrected as a micropub from a former Whitbread pub that had stood closed for decades. It operates as a free house, with the freehold held by an individual rather than a brewery or pub company, giving the bar full control over its beer list. Eight handpumps serve mostly Welsh ales alongside real cider and bottled craft beer, poured in a single small room without a television, fruit machines or piped music. The pub has won Gwent CAMRA's Pub of the Year award on repeated occasions, recognition from the local branch rather than a national award scheme. There is no kitchen, so food stays to bar snacks rather than a menu, keeping the focus on conversation and the beer itself.
