The Stag & Scotch Micropub opened in December 2024 at 71 High Street in Newport, run by a licensee whose family has been in the pub trade for more than fifty years, dating back to grandparents who ran the Stag Inn at nearby Tibberton. The name combines that family history with a nod to whisky alongside the real ale on offer. Seating is arranged on church pews around a single room, with five handpumps serving rotating cask beers from independent breweries rather than a fixed house range. There is no music or television, in keeping with the conversation-focused format used by micropubs elsewhere in the county. The pub received a five-star food hygiene rating from Telford and Wrekin Council in January 2025, shortly after opening. It operates as a single site independent of any brewery or pub company tie, distinct from the tenanted pubs on Newport's other streets, and keeps to the shorter hours typical of the micropub format.
