Yarborough House combines a secondhand bookshop, record shop and café in a single building on the Square in Bishop's Castle, run by Carol Wright. The shop holds more than seven thousand secondhand books covering fiction and non-fiction subjects from music and natural history to cookery and travel, alongside a specialist collection of around four thousand secondhand classical CDs and LPs, one of the larger collections of its kind in the country. A new-books section stocks titles about the local area and by local authors. The café serves fair-trade tea, filter coffee, cappuccino and homemade cakes through the day. Stock turns over quickly, particularly on the fiction shelves, and the shop buys in modern books and classical recordings in good condition. Yarborough House opens Thursday to Sunday and on bank holiday Mondays.
