Ashcroft Jewellery Design is the workshop of Andrew Ashcroft, a goldsmith and engraver who set up on his own account in 2006 after years at the bench. It sits in Fowlers Yard, a courtyard of makers' studios tucked off Back Silver Street below Durham's market place. Ashcroft designs and makes bespoke pieces on site, with a particular line in commissioned wedding and engagement rings, and also carries out hand engraving and the remodelling of older jewellery. Clients work directly with him from sketch through to finished piece, and the studio opens for consultations by arrangement. It is a single-site independent business run by the maker himself, a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths.
