The Black Lion is a black-and-white timber-framed pub on Welsh Row, built in 1664 and among the oldest licensed premises in Nantwich, twenty years after the Battle of Nantwich was fought nearby. Inside, low beams, exposed brick and wattle-and-daub walls divide the ground floor into three separate rooms around an open fire, with further dining and lounge space upstairs. The free house keeps three permanent ales from Weetwood Brewery alongside rotating guest beers, and serves home-cooked, locally sourced food for lunch and dinner Thursday to Saturday, plus Sunday lunch. Children over 12 are welcome. The pub sits among Nantwich's run of black-and-white timber-framed buildings on Welsh Row, a short walk from the town centre.
