Surveyed
British Rail pulled the last passenger trains out of Bodmin in 1967; a preservation society formed in 1984, and steam came back on 17 June 1990. The heritage line now works a little over six miles between Bodmin General, Boscarne Junction and Bodmin Parkway — where it meets the main line, so it can be reached by ordinary train — with roughly nine in ten of its people unpaid volunteers under a registered charitable trust. The circular ride over both branches takes about two hours; steam shanty evenings and diesel galas punctuate the calendar, and the railway rests on Fridays for maintenance. Check the seasonal timetable before travelling.
