FC Soper runs as a family business on Evelina Road, taking phone orders alongside its walk-in trade. The counter stocks wild Scottish mackerel, Cornish hake fillets, wild turbot and snow crab clusters alongside regular supplies of salmon, rainbow trout, king prawns and jellied eels, with a newer line of house-made fish cakes including a salmon, lemon and dill version. The Observer's Jay Rayner has called it simply a great fishmonger, and it has drawn praise from chef Angela Hartnett, broadcaster Fred Sirieix and Time Out. Orders can be placed by phone as well as in person, a service regulars use ahead of weekend cooking. The shop closes for a fortnight each summer, a fixed closure customers plan meals around rather than a surprise.
