Kandara Guest House has operated from 68 Ockendon Road in Islington since the 1950s, run today by the Hamon family, including Avril and Omar and their children. The four-storey terraced house holds ten rooms without en suite bathrooms, sharing five bathrooms between guests in the manner of a traditional guest house rather than a hotel. Breakfast is included and served in a dedicated room each morning, prepared by cook Helen. The quiet residential street sees little through traffic, a contrast to Islington's busier commercial roads a short walk away. Canonbury station lies within a few minutes' walk, giving guests direct rail access into the City without needing the Underground. Long-term regulars return for the personal service the family has maintained across successive generations of ownership.
