Abney Books

Abney Books opened in 2024 at 213 Stoke Newington High Street, near Abney Park cemetery from which it takes its name. Owner Sean stocks secondhand fiction, non-fiction and poetry priced individually, alongside a running four-for-ten-pounds deal on selected shelves. A smaller section holds zines and new titles from local independent presses and self-published authors. Stock turns over quickly, with customers trading in books in saleable condition for shop credit. Sean chose the High Street site for its existing cluster of secondhand traders rather than the quieter side streets nearby. The shop sits a few doors from another secondhand bookshop, giving this stretch of Stoke Newington an unusual concentration of used-book retailers. Shelves are grouped loosely by subject, encouraging browsing over targeted searching for particular titles.
