La Potinière occupies a small dining room on Gullane's Main Street, run by husband-and-wife team Keith Marley and Mary Runciman, who share the kitchen and front of house between them. The pair are founder members of the Scotch Beef Club and grow a share of their own vegetables and herbs in a garden behind the restaurant, working them into a fixed-choice seasonal menu. Marley trained as a pastry chef before taking on savoury cooking here, and has previously picked up a national patisserie award for his dessert work. The dining room seats a small number of covers, keeping service close to the kitchen rather than running at scale, and there is no background music during meals. Muirfield golf course lies a short drive away, and weekend bookings during the golf season fill up well ahead of time. The restaurant took on its current ownership after decades under its original founders.
