Carl Petty has run Rockaboom from its unit in Malcolm Arcade, off St Martin's Square, stocking new and secondhand vinyl across genres from reggae and punk to jazz, drum and bass and alt-country. Petty's own interest in music started as a teenager spending paper-round wages at Selectadisc in Nottingham, and he has carried that same enthusiasm for physical formats into the shop, which also stocks CDs and cassettes. Each Record Store Day the shop takes part in the official exclusive releases scheme, queuing customers for limited pressings from acts such as Oasis, Suede and Jesus and Mary Chain rather than selling through downloads or online orders. Petty has said fair payment to artists matters to him when choosing what the shop stocks and promotes.
