Royal WottoonBassett Museum

Royal Wootton Bassett's Town Hall, built at the end of the 17th century, owes its existence to the political ambitions of the Hyde family, the Earls of Clarendon, who also had the market charter renewed. It has served as meeting room, courthouse, school and library. The upper council chamber stands on 15 pillars; below sat a market store room and a Blind House lock-up, lost in the 1889 restoration. The museum generally opens Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10.00 to 12.00.
