William Saddler opened his bakery in Forfar in 1897, and the business remains in his family four generations later under present owners Michael and Morna. The shop makes its Forfar bridies, horseshoe-shaped parcels of seasoned beef wrapped in shortcrust pastry, using locally sourced Aberdeen Angus beef in the recipe today. Alongside bridies, the counter sells pies, rolls and traybakes, with a small tearoom at the North Street shop serving hot lunches into the afternoon. The bakery opens Monday to Saturday from 8am, with last orders in the tearoom at 3pm. Its bridies have earned it a place on the Aberdeen Angus Trail of producers using the breed's beef.
