Saker Wholefoods bakes bread and pastries at 65 Halifax Road in Todmorden, a business founded by Karl Badger after moving his bakery from Gillygate Co-operative in York into the Calder Valley. His daughter, Clare Stagg, returned from New Zealand in 2009 to open the Saker Organic Bread Shop, extending the business into retail. The bakery keeps to traditional recipes, producing levain sourdough alongside traditional yeasted loaves, and supplies fresh bread daily to the Valley Organics vegetable box scheme as well as its own shop on Market Street in Hebden Bridge. Vegan bakes make up a significant part of the range. Loaves are baked and delivered still warm, with organic and wholefood ingredients used throughout the kitchen.
