Crown Fisheries on Crown Street has served fish and chips in Hebden Bridge for more than forty years and is the town's only chip shop. The kitchen fries in beef dripping rather than vegetable oil, giving the batter and chips a flavour that regulars single out in reviews. Haddock is the mainstay alongside other fish, served with hand-cut chips, mushy peas, curry sauce and the usual accompaniments, for eating in or taking away. The shop is open every day of the week, with slightly longer hours on Thursday and Friday evenings to cover the town's busier nights. Its position just off the main street puts it within easy reach of the railway station and the shops along Bridge Gate, and it has built a following among both residents of the Calder Valley and visitors walking the Rochdale Canal towpath or the surrounding hills.
