When the sixteenth-century thatched pub in Walter Raleigh's home village came up for sale, East Budleigh bought it: more than three hundred local shareholders completed the community purchase in February 2022, and the Sir Walter Raleigh has traded as a community-owned free house since. Four casks pour — Teignworthy's Gun Dog among the regulars — with three real ciders including Sandford Orchards' Devon Red, LocAle accreditation, and a Good Beer Guide listing to show the beer is kept as seriously as the building. Closed Monday and Tuesday; the rest of the week, it is the village's front room, because the village owns it.
