Square Peg CoffeeHouse, Sketty

Square Peg Coffee House opened in March 2015 on Gower Road in Sketty, established by the Swansea social enterprise Poverty to Purpose after three years of planning, crowdfunding and support from local businesses. It became the city's first dedicated speciality coffee shop, serving a house blend roasted by Coaltown Coffee Roasters alongside a rotating monthly guest roaster. The single-site café gives its profits away rather than paying shareholders, and doubles as a community hub in central Sketty with a simple food menu of sandwiches, cakes and daily specials to go with espresso and filter coffee. Founders Matt and Josh, both self-described coffee obsessives, still test brew ratios and source new beans from behind the counter. The shop sits among Sketty's parade of independent traders, drawing students, families and regulars through the working week.
