The Caledonian Craft Beer Merchant opened in 2019 on Maygate in Dunfermline's Heritage Quarter, trading through The Caledonian Craft Beer Merchant Ltd, a company incorporated the previous year. The shop stocks canned and bottled craft beer mainly from Scottish and wider UK breweries, with a smaller range brought in from Europe and North America. Beside the retail shelves is a small tap room known locally as Thunder Road, reckoned to be the smallest pub in Dunfermline, where a rotating keg and cask line-up can be drunk on the premises rather than taken away. The shop sits close to Abbot House and the surviving medieval streets of the old town, an area that has drawn several independent food and drink openings over the past decade. Tastings and meet-the-brewer evenings are run periodically through the year. The shop is closed Monday to Wednesday, opening Thursday afternoon through Sunday, a pattern suited to weekend trade in the Heritage Quarter.
