Woodsetton Art Pottery occupies a Victorian walled garden studio on Tipton Road, on the edge of Dudley, where Lorraine Bates has taught pottery since establishing the business in 1986. The studio holds seven electric wheels for wheel-throwing classes and taster sessions, alongside space and equipment for hand-building and sculpture. Four electric kilns, a gas kiln and a Raku kiln support firing for students and for the gallery shop, which sells stoneware and porcelain made on site. Bates trained at Bath Academy of Art and spent time working in the Potteries in Stoke before settling in the Black Country. Day-long wheel-throwing workshops, shorter taster sessions and six-week courses run alongside open days with throwing demonstrations, and occasional raku and pit-firing sessions for more experienced makers.
