Aroma Tea & Coffee Merchants occupies a shopfront on St Mary's Place in Shrewsbury, run by Andrew and June Turner since 1981. Andrew began roasting after buying a cafetiere for his mother's birthday and finding nowhere locally sold fresh beans; he still hand-roasts at a unit in Battlefield, taking in around five tons of green beans a month. The shop stocks single-origin coffees from South America, Africa and South East Asia alongside loose-leaf teas, and supplies cafes and restaurants across the county. Andrew has watched British drinking habits shift from instant granules towards proper coffee over his decades in the trade. Staff grind to order and talk customers through origin and roast level. The business remains family-run, with the roastery and the original shop its only sites.
