Battlefield LineRailway

The Battlefield Line Railway runs steam and diesel trains for five miles between Shackerstone and Shenton, close to the site of the Battle of Bosworth, on the last surviving section of the former Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway. The Shackerstone Railway Society formed in 1969 to save the line after British Rail closed it in 1970, and restored services began running to Shenton in 1992. Shackerstone station remains the railway's headquarters, with a railwayana museum, tea room, shop and locomotive shed alongside the platforms. Trains run most weekends and bank holidays from March to December, with a midweek heritage railcar service added in July and September. The railway is operated entirely by a volunteer preservation society rather than a commercial operator, and income from fares and the shop funds the upkeep of the locomotives and track.
