Charlton Park Garden Centre sits on Charlton Road on the edge of Wantage, on land that traces back to Dorothy Stevenson, who grew plants in her garden here during the Second World War. After part of the family's land was compulsorily purchased in 1947 for housing linked to the UK Atomic Energy Authority at Harwell, her son Peter Stevenson set up a plant nursery on what remained, which grew into today's garden centre. The Stevenson family still run the business, now stocking outdoor and indoor plants, garden furniture from brands including Bramblecrest and Kettler, hard landscaping materials, lighting, pet supplies and a small deli counter, plus an in-house florist handling weddings and funerals. It remains a single Wantage site rather than part of a wider group, serving Wantage, Grove and nearby Vale of White Horse villages.
