The Royal Institution of Cornwall's museum on River Street — a collection of over a million objects — faced what its sector press called a very real threat of closure when its council funding was pulled in 2022. Transitional support bought time, a £2.3m transformation followed, and in March 2025 the doors reopened under a new name, Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery. The rebuilt rooms take the minerals, Cornish nature in partnership with the Wildlife Trust, the Heart of Cornwall and ancient civilisations, with a balcony gallery hanging five hundred artworks from the 1300s to the present; the upper galleries keep improving into 2027. A £10 ticket works as an annual pass, and under-18s go free.
