Highland Cinema opened in Cameron Square, Fort William, on 25 September 2020, self-funded by local businessman Angus MacDonald as the town's first cinema in around fifteen years. The two-screen building includes a cafe bar alongside its auditoria, showing new releases, Scottish films and event cinema. In November 2023, three years after opening, Highland Cinema was named UK Cinema of the Year in the twenty-four-screens-and-under category at the Big Screen Awards in London. It operates as a single independent cinema rather than part of a multiplex chain, and announced charitable status in September 2025 to support its community film programming in Lochaber. The venue remains the only cinema serving Fort William and the surrounding area.
