John Davies Gallery occupies a converted 1920s dairy building on the Fosseway at Moreton-in-Marsh. The gallery was founded by the painter John Davies in Stow-on-the-Wold in 1977, when he began buying and selling nineteenth and twentieth-century paintings to support his own practice as an artist; he expanded the Stow shop through three separate property knock-throughs before moving the whole operation into the former United Dairies pasteurisation plant in 2007. The gallery now covers around 3,000 square feet and has staged hundreds of exhibitions since it opened, showing work that ranges from traditional and post-impressionist paintings to semi-abstract and abstract contemporary pieces. Davies remains the gallery's sole owner and continues to select and buy the work shown on the walls himself. The gallery is a single-site business with no other branches, and visitors can view current and past exhibitions on request; opening days vary by season, so calling ahead before a visit is recommended.
