William Toke Bennett opened Toke's in 2015 in premises his family had traded food from across four generations — five, counting the town's feeding — and styled it, in his own words, an off-beat antidote to the gentrified rural food hall: wine, local cheeses, homemade deli goods and the sausage rolls the shop calls famous with some justification. Bennett died in May 2025, and his best friends and colleagues have kept the counters running since, to keep — as they put it — the spirit of Toke's alive. It stands on the High Street opposite the old grammar school, near the four-hundred-year-old market hall. Monday to Saturday, nine to five.
