Marquess Meats has traded as a family butcher since 1974, when Harry and Jean Marquess began cutting beef near Muckamore before building the shop that became a fixture of the area. Their son Rowan took over with his wife Jenny in 2016, and the next generation, Travis and Jack, now work alongside them. The business has since moved its counter into Coleman's Garden Centre on the Old Ballyclare Road in Templepatrick, where it sells beef, lamb, pork and free-range chicken alongside free-range eggs and fresh milk from Rowandale Creamery. Cuts include steaks, sausages, burgers, bacon and belly pork, prepared to order at the counter. The shop was named Northern Ireland champion in the Best Butcher category of the Countryside Alliance Awards. Four generations of the same family have worked the till and the block, and the business still runs as a family concern rather than a corporate operation, sourcing meat through long-standing local supplier relationships.
