Oriel Canfas occupies Manchester House, a Victorian former drapers' warehouse on Grosvenor Hill built in 1885 for the draper John James, its name recalling the Manchester cotton mills that once supplied the shop's fabric. Owned by PARart and curated by the artist and illustrator Anne Cakebread, the gallery has championed contemporary Welsh art since 2019, spreading exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, ceramics and limited-edition prints across four rooms of the old building. Work changes regularly, drawing on painters and makers working across west Wales rather than a fixed roster of names. The building itself has served as a restaurant, hairdressers and council chamber since the drapery trade ended in 1925, and the gallery is one of the few independent art spaces in the county, standing on Cardigan's High Street opposite the castle.
