Penshaw FarmShop

Penshaw Farm Shop trades from East Barnwell Farm on Chester Road below Penshaw Monument, having grown from a roadside nursery and tearoom converted from an old stable block into a family-run farm shop. A farm butchery, added in 2012 and sourcing meat from the operator's own West Rainton farm, and a home bakery opened in November 2018 supply bread, cakes and cuts alongside the shop's fruit, vegetables and dairy. The attached tearoom and plant nursery remain part of the business, with a milk vending machine for locally produced milk. The site has expanded several times as trade increased, most recently with the extension of the tearoom and butchery counter. It operates as a single independent site rather than a supermarket concession, run day to day by the family that established it. Open seven days a week, it serves Houghton-le-Spring, Washington and the wider Wearside area with locally sourced meat, bread and produce.
