Reginald Taylor founded the business in 1946 after returning from wartime service in Europe convinced there would be a shortage of horticultural supplies, starting with a small nursery in Chilwell and a stall on Nottingham's Central Market. The Taylor family moved the operation to 25 acres at Hill Farm in Normanton, near Southwell, in 1963, and four generations of the family, including Reg's son Richard and grandchildren Mark, Paul and Helen, have run it since. The site now combines a plant nursery and garden shop with a swan sanctuary and a tea room serving light lunches, scones and cakes overlooking the grounds. The Mower Shop next door handles machinery sales and repairs. Open Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday and bank holidays 10am to 4.30pm, at Hill Farm Nurseries, Normanton, Southwell.
