Sandford Orchards

Sandford Orchards presses cider at The Cider Works on Commonmarsh Lane in Crediton, a site the company describes as Britain's oldest working cider mill. Barny Butterfield founded the business in 2002 and remains at the helm as it approaches its 25th harvest, using fresh juice pressed from locally grown cider apples rather than concentrate. The range runs from traditional still ciders to modern fruit-led styles, all produced on the Crediton site rather than under contract elsewhere. A shop and tap room on site sells the full range direct to visitors, open through the week with later hours on Friday and Saturday. Butterfield received a lifetime achievement award for services to the cider industry for his work building the business.
