St Andrews Wine Company opened on Bell Street in 2012, when Peter Wood left an eleven-year career with Oddbins to run his own shop. The single premises stocks wine, whisky and spirits chosen directly by Wood and his small team, with regular in-store tastings and a companion label, St Andrews Whisky Company, sold from the same counter. In 2020 Decanter magazine named it Local Wine Shop of the Year for the whole of the UK, having already ranked it best in Scotland for three years running. The shop built a following among golf visitors and residents for recommendations delivered without pretension, including live tastings streamed on social media during the 2020 lockdowns. It remains a single independent shop, not part of any chain.
