St Ives Electric Riverboat Co operates passenger and self-drive boat trips from the Quay in St Ives, on the River Great Ouse. Chris and Pat Morgan founded the business in 2005 to run battery-powered boats on the river between St Ives and Hemingford Locks; the family of Francis and Sarah took over operations in 2023. The fleet of three electric boats, including two 21-foot Phoenix launches, produces no exhaust noise or fumes and sits low enough in the water to reach backwaters that larger diesel cruisers cannot enter. Skippers hold RYA powerboat and dinghy qualifications and run scheduled passenger trips past water meadows and under Hemingford Lock, alongside self-drive hire for those wanting to steer themselves and private charters for celebrations. Trips run seasonally from April to October and offer a quiet way to see herons, kingfishers and grazing cattle along the riverbank.
