The Lamplight occupies a building on Victoria Square dated to 1493, first used as a coach house and later as a hostelry called the Tiger Inn. Exposed beams and stone walls from that period frame the dining room today. Lamplight Restaurant Limited, incorporated in October 2002, describes itself as a family-run restaurant in the centre of Ashbourne's historic market town. Tables are set for evening dining, and the building's original character does the work that a themed interior would elsewhere. The company has traded continuously from the same Victoria Square address since incorporation, making it one of the longer-standing independent restaurants in this part of Derbyshire.
