The building on Bye Street traded historically as the White Lion, then spent time as a private house and as offices, before being converted back into a pub under the name The Lion in 2016. Clare Barter took over as landlady in October 2024 and runs it as a small freehouse, serving cask ales straight from the barrel alongside local ciders rather than a fixed keg list. A pub quiz runs on the second Tuesday of each month, at two pounds a head for teams of up to four, and an acoustic session on the last Wednesday invites both performers and listeners. The single room is compact, built around the bar rather than a separate lounge, and the guest ale changes regularly depending on what Barter has found from smaller regional breweries.
