The Rum Story occupies the Jefferson family's original 1785 trading shop and bonded warehouses on Lowther Street, opened as a visitor attraction in May 2000. Displays across the historic buildings trace Whitehaven's part in the rum trade and the wider history of the port, from sugar plantations through to the family business that ran until 1998.
