The Salt Cellar sits at 2-4 Gold Hill, a few steps below Gold Hill Museum, with a terrace that looks out over the Blackmore Vale. It runs as a coffee shop and café together, pulling espresso to sit alongside paninis, ciabattas, pies and daily specials, with breakfast, lunch and cream tea served through the day. Cakes are made on site, and gluten-free and vegetarian dishes appear on the same menu as everything else. Dogs are welcome at the tables, though the cobbled, sloping approach up Gold Hill rules out wheelchair access. Bookings are advised at weekends and through summer, when the view down the hill draws a steady flow of walkers. The shop keeps to daytime hours only and closes completely on Sundays.
